OBSESI PEREMPUAN DALAM MENGGAPAI KEBEBASAN DAN EMANSIPASI (Studi Komunikasi Media Pertunjukan Teater yang Mengupas Pesan dalam ”Perempuan Menuntut Malam” dengan Analisis Semiologi Komunikasi)

Theatrical art is one of communication media having strong effect on the reality disclosure. The reality disclosure is poured onto the text that is later translated into elements integration of stage, lighting, setting, music, gesture, and vocal. The integration of individual elements contains the meaning and message that need to be interpreted in more depth because it uses both verbal and non verbal symbols. For that reason, the theatrical art is not an integral unity when the actor has not performed action in a performance before the public. The main problem of research does not emphasize on the theater as the communication media, but on the substance within it. The main problem that will be addressed through this research is to find out how the gender and emancipation issues the Indonesian women encounter through the monolog theater performance of Perempuan Menuntut Malam. The social construct of Indonesian society in generally holds a patriarchal system frequently making women in disadvantaged position. The system gives the men privileges by marginalizing the women’s interest, whereas, in fact, the men and the women share the same right and duty as the human beings. The strong cultural norms and values are two factors inhibiting the women development. This study belonged to e descriptive qualitative research constituting the verbal and non vernal messages within each sign included in the Perempuan Menuntut Malam performance. The researcher analyzed data using Andrik Purwasito’s communication semiology interpretation contained in the Message Studies (2003) that essentially is the means of signs testing in the message built in the theater performance Perempuan Menuntut Malam on March 8-9, 2008 in Ismail Marzoeki Park, Jakarta. From the result of data analysis, it can be concluded that the monolog theater performance represents highly the currently women condition. Generally, the women had progressed in their participation in public sector. However, the role of women still cannot be apart from the domestic role inherent to them. The women’s common biological and psychological conditions are unconsciously the factors making the static condition of women. Having drawing conclusion, the researcher feels that the communication semiology study is very important in sharpening the communication persons in encountering the phenomenon fraught with the symbol and sign. Therefore, the researcher recommends the educational institution to be able to provide the special space for semiotics as an independent lecture
